Despite a few public polls taken in North Carolina that resulted in a majority supporting the taxation and regulation of Medical Marijuana, NC will not being seeing any chance of allowing it legally anytime soon.
The NC House Rules Committee decided to kill HB 84, the bill that could have legalized the use and prescription of Medical Marijuana, on February 20th, 2013. NC HRC Chairman Rep. Paul Stam said “We killed it to be done with it, so people could move on for the session,” which basically meant that the Republican controlled committee swept it under the bus so that they wouldn’t have to deal with it or the citizens that they are supposed to be representing.
In fact, Stam also said lawmakers were being “harassed” with phone calls and emails from constituents who support the legalization and regulation of medical marijuana.
These elected officials that are supposed to look out for the peoples best interests shouldn’t consider citizens voices as harassment, especially when it is the majority.
